ProtonMail is a secure webmail service that also offers ProtonMail Bridge, an application that runs on your computer to encrypt and decrypt outgoing emails. Using ProtonMail Bridge, you can integrate your email account with email clients such as Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Microsoft Outlook. On your Mac, open the default browser after ensuring that you have a standard Internet connection.
Download the ProtonMail Bridge app and install it on your Mac.
To add your email account to the ProtonMail Bridge app, launch it.
Click the Add Account button available at the bottom-left corner of the ProtonMail Bridge window.
Type in your username, login password, two-factor authentication code (if enabled), and Mailbox password (if in 2-password mode) in the required fields.
Click Next and wait until your account is connected to the Bridge.
To access the Bridge credentials, click on Mailbox configuration.
If you wish to switch to split address mode, click on Switch to split address mode. Doing so will add each address to the client separately.
To access your Bridge credentials for each address, click on Address configuration.
Note down the IMAP and SMTP settings displayed on the screen, which will be required to configure the server settings later on Mac Mail.
If necessary, log out from your account in the ProtonMail Bridge app.
Click the Configure Apple Mail button at the left-side pane of the Bridge account settings screen.
In the Profiles dialog box, click Continue to install ProtonMail as your profile.
Click Continue when you are prompted to accept the SSL certificate.
Give a name for your email account in the Full Name field and click Install.
Next, launch Apple Mail to check if your
ProtonMail account has been successfully added to it.
Click on the Mail menu available at the top and select Preferences.
Move to the Accounts tab and choose your ProtonMail account from the left-side panel.
Click the Mailbox Behaviors sub-menu and choose Drafts (On My Mac) from the Drafts Mailbox pull-down menu.
Click the Junk Mail tab and make sure that the Enable junk mail filtering checkbox is deselected if you wish to disable your client spam filters and rely on your ProtonMail spam filters.
Verify the ProtonMail email address and wait for the confirmation message stating that you have successfully configured Apple Mail to work with the Bridge app.
