SMTP is the outgoing mail server protocol required to send your email messages from your email account to another. If you are going to configure your email account on any client, you will need to know the provider's email settings. The Hostgator SMTP settings only work for outgoing messages. The incoming protocols are POP and IMAP that are responsible for receiving email messages. The steps to configure your Hostgator email account using SMTP settings in Mozilla Thunderbird are given below.

  • Step : 1 Launch the Thunderbird application and go to the Tools menu. Select Accounts Settings.
  • Step : 2 Now, click the Account Actions option and select Add Mail Account.
  • Step : 3 When prompted for confirmation, click Continue.
  • Step : 4 Type your Hostgator email address and name. Click Continue.
  • Step : 5 Select the Manual Configuration option.
  • Step : 6 Choose either IMAP or POP as your account type.
  • Step : 7 Enter the incoming server credentials correctly to configure your Hostgator email account.
  • Step : 8 Now, select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) tab. Click the Add option.
  • Step : 9 Enter the SMTP settings as given below.
  • Step : 10 Enter your email address in the Username or Description section.
  • Step : 11 Type the email password of your Hostgator email account correctly.
  • Step : 12 The outgoing mail server address is full.servername.com.
  • Step : 13 Enter 25 as the outgoing port number for an insecure connection. Select the Security type as None.
  • Step : 14 For the Security type as SSL/TLS, the port number is 465.
  • Step : 15 Choose the authentication using a password.
  • Step : 16 Once you have entered all the settings, make sure to save them.
  • Step : 17 You can click on the OK button to complete the configuration process.
  • Step : 18 Once you have configured your email account using Hostgator SMTP settings, you will be able to send emails from Thunderbird.
  • Step : 19 You can use the same SMTP email settings to configure your Hostgator email account on any client.
